Description

Short

A little garden under the real sky. A pixel dog or cat lives a calm life inside your iPhone. One pet is free, with no ads.

Long

Pikomofu is a tiny 32×32 pixel dog or cat that lives in a little garden inside your iPhone. You choose your companion from 12 dog breeds (or a mix) and 8 cats, with its own coat, ears and tail.

The garden's sky keeps real time and turns with the seasons: the colors of morning and evening, the real phase of the moon, a cherry tree that changes from spring blossom to bare winter branches. If you like, it can show the real weather for a place you choose, without using your iPhone's location.

Care is light: food, water, cleaning and a shower. Your pet plays on its own. It never dies; if you are away for a while, it waits for you with teary eyes.

Anyone who has lived with a dog or a cat will recognize the small things it does. They are drawn one by one, and deliberately left unexplained.

One pet is free, with no ads and no subscription. The Pikomofu Pass, a single one-time purchase, adds the Apple Watch app, widgets and up to five pets. New friends and outfits will keep arriving free in updates.

Key features

  • Pixel dogs and cats. Front-facing 32×32 sprites. 12 dog breeds and 8 cats, mixes, coat colors and accessories.
  • The real sky. The sky follows the time and the season, and at night the moon rises in its real phase. The cherry tree changes through the year.
  • Real weather, if you want it. Pick a prefecture in Japan or a town anywhere, and its sun, clouds, rain or snow come to the garden. No location access.
  • Gentle care. Food, water, cleaning, shower. Nothing dies. Its bond with you only goes up, never down.
  • Widgets and Apple Watch. The Home Screen widget changes scene every quarter hour, and a tap on your pet pets it. Also on the Lock Screen, and as an Apple Watch app with complications (Pikomofu Pass).
  • Show a friend. Send your garden as a postcard, with your pet on the stamp.
  • Small gestures. Things real dogs and cats do, drawn for people who will recognize them. None of them is explained.
  • Accessibility. VoiceOver and Voice Control describe the garden and let you pet your companion or pick things up. Larger Text and Reduce Motion are supported.
  • App icons. Choose from 8 Home Screen icons, from the shiba to the calico and the black cat (free).
  • Moving. Bring your pets to a new iPhone through iCloud or a moving file, or give one to a new family.

Tips for filming

Anyone is welcome to film Pikomofu and introduce it in videos or posts. No permission needed, and no need to tell us. No money changes hands with us either way: we don't pay, and we don't give out the Pass or anything else.

A 30-second sequence (all free features)

  1. On first launch, choose Dog or cat? → Breed → Coat → Name, then go to the garden.
  2. Slide a finger sideways over your pet to stroke it.
  3. Keep a finger resting on your pet: its heartbeat comes through the iPhone, and a little heart beats above its head.
  4. Tap Food. A new pet starts a little hungry, so it eats (when it's full, it sniffs and turns away).
  5. Leave it untouched for about a minute and it comes right up to the screen and presses its nose to the glass.
  6. Take a screenshot: it notices the camera and strikes a pose (a different one each time).
  7. With two iPhones, open Settings → Friends → Visit a friend nearby on both. Tap Invite over and close Settings, and the friend's pet comes to play for about a minute. On iPhone 11 or later (except iPhone SE and iPhone 16e), just hold the two side by side, touching, and the two pets meet. Scanning Show as a QR code with the other iPhone's camera works too.

While your pet is asleep there's no nose on the glass and no pose, only a twitch of an ear. Film while it's awake.

Feel free to cut the waiting in your edit.

A ready-to-use 15-second clip (no text; landscape, vertical, silent) is just above.

The full rules are in the Video & Streaming Guidelines.
